Music Motivation Monday —- LUST FOR LIFE (It’s not just for cruise-line commercials)
Nothing needs a solid dose of Iggy Pop more than a Monday, right?
I know, I know, I know. “Lust for Life” is a song about drug addiction. I know. But so many good songs are about vices. Iggy is one of the ultimate rock stars, and in 1977 England, I would have expected nothing less than a solid list of vices.
When the song became the theme for cruise-line commercials, it made a laugh. Scenes of young children, running around on the deck of the ship, splashing on a waterslide. Couples look lovingly at each other, sipping fruity drinks while looking out at the ocean. Food! Scenery!
Meanwhile, all fans of 70s punk were signing along, filling in for the dropped vocal about strip teases and hypnotizing chickens.
I recently caught an interview with Mr. Pop, and he stated how he is now living a healthy lifestyle – rarely drinking, and he may have even become a vegetarian.
So yeah, I think Iggy has a new lust for sucking the life out of life…and I want to on this Monday as well.
Fun fact – David Bowie co-wrote this song with Iggy Pop, and composed it on a ukulele.
Second fun fact – the rhythm pattern is based on an Armed Forces Radio signal.
So – take on the week! Take on the elliptical! Or better yet, take on taking the dog for a run. Let that drum beat be the soundtrack of your day. Have a lust for life!
