2017 has been an amazing year for movies. Would you agree? The year kicked off with the wide release of Academy Award films like LA LA LAND, MOONLIGHT, MANCHESTER BY THE SEA, LION. We also got the girl power of WONDER WOMAN, a strong reboot of Spiderman, the sweet story of THE BIG SICK…and now, the film we’ve been waiting for all year— DUNKIRK.
Now, looking ahead, there’s a lot to be excited about! D23 last week teased several incredible moments, including the next STAR WARS installment, the new AVENGERS…and now, with Comic-Con this week, I’m sure there will be many more films to talk about.
These are a few that we are particularly excited about at Wander True North HQ. We want to know what movies YOU are excited about! Share with us on the comments or Facebook!
DUNKIRK
July 20
DUNKIRK is what got us started thinking about creating this list in the first place. We’ve been counting down the days to the release of DUNKIRK ever since w saw the trailer back in December. The World War II Battle of Dunkirk, retold by Christopher Nolen? With Tom Hardy? Cillian Murphy? Kenneth Branagh? Need I say more? You should probably go see it this weekend. Just go buy a ticket now.
See the extended trailer here:
WONDER
November 17
Seriously, has anyone watched this trailer and not teared up, at least a bit?
STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI
December 15
Rey is our girl – and she’s continuing her epic adventure with Finn, Poe – and just when we thought it couldn’t get better, this installment now introduces DJ (Benicio Del Toro!!!) What’s not to love?
COCO
November 22
IMDB says “COCO follows a 12-year old boy named Miguel who sets off a chain of events relating to a century-old mystery, leading to an extraordinary family reunion.” I saw that Pixar may have created another masterpiece.
MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS
November 10
Who doesn’t love the Agatha Christie thriller of a strangers on a train? And who doesn’t love a cast made up of (deep breath) Johnny Depp, Daisy Ridley, Kenneth Branagh, Penelope Cruz, Willem Defoe, Judi Dench, Michelle Pfeiffer and Josh Gad? Geez – I wish they could have gotten someone notable for the cast! 😉
VICTORIA and ABDUL
Sept 22
Tagged as History’s most unlikely friendship – this is the true story of Queen Victoria and a young Indian clerk Abdul Karim. Incredibly the Queen allows this common man into her inner circle, and changes her views on many issues – and appears to find a new joy as well.
SAME KIND OF DIFFERENT AS ME
October 20
I still have 2 months to finish the book, before the movie version of SAME KIND OF DIFFERENT AS ME releases. An art dealer must befriend a homeless man in order to save his marriage. So many people I know love this book – trusting that the film honors the story.
KINGSMEN: The Golden Circle
Sept 22
OK – the first KINGSMEN movie was a guilty pleasure of great characters and ridiculous violence. We loved it. And we can’t wait for the next installment.
MULLY
October 3-5
Ok – so I already saw this documentary, and already have a review written to share with you faithful readers. But I hope you’ll go see this inspiring documentary. Think one person can’t change a life, a town, a country, the world? After you see MULLY, you’ll think again.
So tell us – what movies are you excited about? What are we missing?
Happy movie viewing!
