First day back to the gym…needing a little JT to make it through

Today was my first day back to the gym after Christmas, and man, was it hard. But so good, and so needed! I may not be able to walk tomorrow, but getting those endorphins kicking so I could sweat out weeks of cookies, cocktails and binge watching Netflix seemed to be just what my brain and body needed.

I gotta admit though, I struggled at first. That first 10 minutes were brutal. I didn’t think I could do it. It was hard to get used to my heart rate being up again.   Luckily for me, I got a blast of power from Justin Timberlake. (see below)

Why is it that the hardest step is often just getting started? Getting out the door is the biggest challenge that keeps me from working out. And then occasionally, I get to the gym and see there are people in the 30 minute workout area and I just want to walk away. There are 50 other ways to get my heart rate up – why do I say ‘this is my workout today’ and then don’t give my all if I don’t get my way?

Today, I want to give my all in everything…even that dreaded conference call that is looming.  I want to fully engage in my conversations. I want to make good decisions.  I want to say “thank you” a lot.  I want to be present in my every moment.

And I want to keep my family healthy and on track as well. Check back tomorrow on that process…good things to report.

Did you make it to the gym today? Did you have a good walk around the block? Did you chase your kids through the park?  Did you close your office door and take a 4 minute dance break?  Exercise takes a lot of forms…and none of them are bad! Celebrate getting up and moving around. Leave a note and let us know how you got moving.

And for our workout music motivation…. Here’s a little Justin Timberlake.  (Who doesn’t love Justin Timberlake. Really….) And remember – You can dance when you’re on an elliptical or an arc machine. You may inspire some others at the gym to dance dance dance along!
