Things we love – Sseko (and there’s a sale today!)

We are starting a new series of things we love. We don’t get paid by these people.  There’s no kickback. It’s just products that we love and want you to know about.

And since it’s summer – Sseko has to be high up on the list.  And this week, they are having sales every day so keep an eye on their site!

Sseko shoes always make a statement — dressy, casual – they do whatever you need them to do.

sseko-ribbon-sandals-10Design wise, they are a perfect storm. You buy a base, you buy some ribbon and then you wrap your feet into these cool sandals. When I bought my first pair 4 years ago there was only 1 style of base, but now they have wedges, colors and a myriad of different ribbons to dress down or dress up any summer look.

But what’s even better is what Sseko does for people.

Sseko employs women in Uganda, gives them a great job and puts their earnings directly into paying for their college education. Currently there are 50 women making these shoes, handbags and other products. Eleven of these women are working to fund their education. Seventy One women have gone to college, and Sseko designs and sources all of their products in East Africa to “create jobs, empower artisans and help end the cycle of poverty by building healthy communities and economies.”

One of my favorite parts of this program is that you can communicate with the women who make the products. You can send notes to the women directly – or you can send encouragement to the entire team. Notes are read outloud during weekly team meetings – and individual notes are printed out and given to the women to encourage them in their work and in pursuing their dreams.

And today, July 20, in honor of their seventh anniversary, all ribbon sandals are 50% off! So go buy some shoes (or purses or jewelry or yoga bags or…or…or…or….)

So get shopping and do some good!
